In this week’s episode of Fish Fry, we take a closer look at the world of formal verification. Dave Kelf (OneSpin) joins us to discuss the mechanics of systematic verification and random verification and why automotive and other safety-critical applications may prove to be the most effective use of formal verification yet. We also chat about the themes found at this year’s Design Automation Conference including why Dave believes that the convergence of HLS and System-C, FPGAs, and safety-critical applications made DAC 2017 one of the most exciting conference years to date.

The clock is ticking. The time to design in the next generation of vehicle-to-vehicle communication is now. In this week’s Fish Fry, we navigate through the twists and turns that V2V communications have in store for us. My guest Kim Rubin and I discuss how the issues surrounding security, privacy, and accuracy are going to be crucial to widespread V2V implementation in the next couple years. Keeping on track with our vehicular theme this week, we also check out new self-repairing asphalt technology (from Delft University in the Netherlands) that could charge our electric cars and fix our pothole problems at the same time.

What you’ve got here is one part engineering co-creation, one part wicked cool 3D printing, and one part automotive revolution. In this week’s Fish Fry, we welcome Dan Fox - CTO of Local Motors. Dan and I discuss the the variety of 3D printed cars micro-manufactured at Local Motors, what their co-creation program is all about, and how you can get involved in their Zelator Drone Build project. In the second half of our episode, we dive into the world of safety and security critical software development. Jim McElroy (LDRA) joins us and we chat about what their “Road to Certification” is all about, what kind of critical safety and security training classes LDRA offers, and why LDRA offers a 30 day trial of their tool suite for free.

On Your Mark! Get Set! Design! In this week’s Fish Fry, I chat with Alex Tan (Marvell Semiconductor) about the emerging trends in automotive design, the biggest challenges that we face as engineers when it comes to automotive product design, and how Marvell’s new Automotive Center of Excellence will help us make our motor-runnin’ dreams become reality. Also this week, we take a slower look at that big ol’ traffic jam called DFT and why emulation may be the key to getting DFT off the critical path on your next chip design.
