Innovation big and small is the name of the game in this week's episode of Fish Fry. First up, we examine the newest advances in touchscreen technology with Jon Brodd and Kelly Ingham from Cima NanoTech. Jon and Kelly reveal the details of their (almost) larger-than-life touchscreens and help us plot a course to the future of touchscreen technology. Also this week, we take a closer look at a new wireless neurotransmitter being developed at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research's Institute of Microelectronics and Biospark Technologies that could change the face of pain management forever.

In this week’s Fish Fry, we investigate an innovative new solution called the Sensara Senior Lifestyle System from GreenPeak Technologies. This new sensor-assisted program brings together sensors and smart cloud technologies to create a service application that helps elderly people live more securely in their homes, while also providing peace of mind to their loved ones and caretakers. Cees Links (CEO - GreenPeak Technologies) joins Fish Fry to explain how this new system works and why in this case, the idea of Big Brother might not be that bad. Spoiler alert: It doesn’t use a camera!

It’s that time of year again. When the accelerometers run cold, the gyroscopes start changing colors and float gently to the ground, and the magnetometers tuck themselves in for the long winter ahead. Yes, it's time for our annual MEMS Executive Congress run down. With a little help from Fish Fry field reporter Larra Morris, we have the scoop on coolest technologies featured at this year’s MEMS Executive Congress MEMS and Sensor Technology Showcase. From smart baby monitors to the newest in anisotropic magneto-resistive (AMR) sensor technology to the new (and super cool) Bosch eBike, this week’s Fish Fry has a little bit of MEMS action for everyone. Also this week, we check out the details of On Semiconductor’s new MatrixCam Video Development Kit.

As engineers we have the power to change the world. We have the ability to spark change (and blue smoke occasionally) and help cure the ills that plague our society. Did you know that according to a study published by the New York Times, brain trauma affects one in three players in the National Football League? My guest Sagar Jethani (element14) is here to introduce us to Element14's Sudden Impact Challenge, a design contest intended to help stem the tide of undiagnosed on-field injuries. In this week’s Fish Fry, we take a closer look at the Sudden Impact Design Contest winners and examine why contests like this one are so vital to our engineering community as a whole. Also this week, we check out Cadence’s new Indago Debug platform (spoiler alert: your printf days may be over for good).

In this week’s Fish Fry we explore a whole new world of wearable technologies with Julian Penders from Bloom Technologies. Julian (co-author of “Wearable Technologies for Healthier Pregnancies”) and I talk about how wearable technologies can help monitor lifestyle behaviors. We’ll be looking at the future of wearable technologies targeted for pregnancy, and discussing how these technologies pose additional challenges. Also this week, I check out Cadence’s new Innovus tool suite and reveal how it could make routing your million gate IC design just a little bit easier.

Hold on tight ladies and gents! This week I'm flying down the IoT Highway, and I’m taking you with me. Our first stop is a little Consumer Electronics Show preview with Rob Vailton from Atmel. Rob and I discuss why low power MCUs will hold the key to the future of automotive innovation and how we can keep those pesky hackers out of our connected cars. Also this week, we look at how IoT Kickstarter campaign Khushi Baby hopes to make the world a much healthier place -- bridging the gap between healthcare workers and the communities they serve, one NFC-equipped necklace at a time.

Last week, we investigated how new MEMS-enhanced devices are changing the way we interact with our tennis rackets, beer kegs, and video games (you know, the important stuff), but this week, we’re going past the world of CE to a land where the power budgets are tight, the BOMs are tighter, and the number of sensors soars into the millions. Yep, we’re talking about MEMS in the medical machine. My guest is Rick Russell, President of Merit Sensor Systems. Rick is here to introduce us to a whole new world of pressure sensors, explain why Merit has their own wafer fab, and map out where the MEMS market is headed in the future. Then, keeping with our medical theme, we also check out a new MEMS-enhanced eating-sensing earpiece looking for some Indigogo cash that will not only listen to your bites but also have you talking to your food.

What do head injuries, beer, and smart tennis rackets have in common? The MEMS Executive Congress, that's what! (Thought I was going somewhere else with that, didn't ya?) Keeping with our Friday Fun theme, this week's Fish Fry digs into how MEMS-enhanced designs can measure the amount of beer left in your keg, alert your coach about a potential head injury, and improve your tennis game. We chat about several cool designs submitted to this year's MEMS Executive Congress Technology Showcase by companies Nod Labs, Babolat, and Kegdata. Also this week, we look at the way Force Impact Technologies wants to change how we address head injuries on the ball field.

This here twin-turbo EEJournal.com podcastin’ hot rod is headed to the IoT finish line - one biometric at a time. In this week’s Fish Fry, we investigate biometric data sensors and how one company is making sure that our fitness is actually what we think it is. My guest is Valencell President Steven LeBoeuf. Steven and I are going to chat about the future of the wearable market, precision biometrics, Valencell’s new state-of-the-art sports testing lab, and a little bit about professional cartooning. Get your wearable motor runnin' folks!
