What do swarming robots, LoRa, and the future of IoT communications have in common? This week’s Fish Fry podcast!  We start things off with an investigation into a new robotic research project developed by Notre Dame assistant electronic engineering professor Yasemin Ozkan-Aydin. We take a closer look at the details of these new swarming robots and how they maneuver in challenging environments and accomplish difficult tasks collectively. Also this week, Rémi Lorrain (Semtech) joins us to discuss the differences between LoRa and LoRaWAN, what the collaboration between Swam technologies and Semtech looks like, and how LoRa will help provide connectivity to new areas of the world.

In this week’s podcast, we start things off with a closer look at a new robotic system developed by a team of researchers at MIT called RFusion. We investigate how it combines RF information, visual data, and neural networks to find and retrieve objects with ease. (Spoiler alert: it can even find objects when they are buried under a pile and fully out of view.) Also this week, Tariq Ahmad (element14) joins us to discuss element14’s new Spy Nerd Challenge. We chat about the motivations behind the creation of this unique electronic design contest, how you can get involved and what you can win.

 

In this week’s Fish Fry podcast, we’ve got an interview double header! First up, Peggy Carrieres (Avnet) joins me to discuss the electronic supply shortages we are experiencing today and why she believes constraint drives innovation. Next, Rob Mains (CHIPS Alliance) joins me to discuss how CHIPS Alliance is collaborating with a variety of different companies and universities to create a chip design ecosystem and the details of their unified memory standard developed with RISC-V international.
