“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.” Bobby Unser
Many of us would love to get started on an artificial intelligence-enhanced IoT edge device design but we're not sure how to get started. In this week’s episode of Fish Fry, I sit down with Deepak Boppana and we talk about a new technology stack unveiled by Lattice Semiconductor called sensAI. Deepak and I explore the details of the sensAI technology stack and why the power and cost components of this stack set it apart from other solutions. Also this week, we investigate how China is aiming to be the world leader in artificial intelligence by 2030 and how they are using AI and facial recognition in their school system today.

In honor of pi Day, we’re serving up some Raspberry pi goodness! First up, Peter Wenzel (element14) dishes about the features of the newly launched Raspberry pi 3 Model B+. Peter and I chat about the Model B+ modular compliance certification, the details of a new Raspberry pi starter kit, and how power over ethernet is coming to the Raspberry pi ecosystem. In the second part of our pi coverage, Hari Kalyanaraman (element14) brings us the goods on GraspIO Cloudio - a new Raspberry pi expansion board with a mobile platform for end-to-end IoT development and deployment. In this week’s Kickstarter corner, we take a look at a new innovative way to clean up the Chicago River. (Spoiler Alert: It involves video games and remote-controlled boats!)

Real World ATCA and SWAP-C, a Revolution in Gaming, and Bathtub Drones
Friday Mar 16, 2018
Friday Mar 16, 2018
Welcome my electronic engineering compatriots! We’ve got quite a line up for you this week. First up, Rob Persons (Artesyn Embedded Technologies) joins us to discuss the details of a real world AdvancedTCA application that utilizes SWAP-C called DASCAN (Dynamically Adaptive Secure Computing Area Network) and how AdvancedTCA applications compare with more traditional server-based applications in battlefield environments. We also discuss how Artesyn has collaborated with Gamestream and Intel to create a cloud-based platform for a brand new video game streaming service. In a special segment of News You May Have Missed, we check out how a couple intrepid engineers from Germany are flippin’ the script on drone technology as we know it - one bathtub at a time!

Friday Jan 12, 2018
"I shall ask for brains instead of a heart; for a fool would not know what to do with a heart if he had one."
-- Scarecrow - The Wizard of Oz)
In this week’s episode of Fish Fry, we set our sights on open source hardware design. Jake Janovetz (President - Opal Kelly) introduces us to a brand new crowdfunding campaign called the Brain-1. Jake and I discuss the the details of Brain-1, why they chose crowdfunding to launch this project, and what their new SYZYGY interconnect standard is all about. We also take a closer look at world’s smallest wearable sensor called UVSense rolled out this week at the Consumer Electronics Show. We check out how this sensor technology (which is a collaboration between cosmetics company L’Oreal and Northwestern University) could how we measure harmful UV ray exposure.

It's Alive!
Friday Oct 27, 2017
Friday Oct 27, 2017
We’ve all felt like Dr. Frankenstein at some point in our careers, right? We kludge together a board with a wide variety of parts, add electricity and some blue smoke, and then (if we are lucky) we have created the perfect monster. Without a proper avenue for financing and a solid plan to bring your monster into the world (without mobs of angry townspeople), all of your hard work can be worth little to nothing. In this week’s Fish Fry, we are take a closer look at how Kickstarter, Dragon Innovation, and Avnet’s Hardware Studio can help take your next little monstrous prototype out of your basement lab and into the real world of manufacturing.

This week’s episode of Fish Fry runs the gamut of electronic design. First, check out how an Italian engineering student built a 3D printer for only twelve dollars! (Spoiler alert: He used recycled parts from three inkjet printers and a flatbed scanner). Next, Breker CEO Adnan Hamid joins us to discuss the controversy around portable stimulus representation models, the future of portable stimulus, and why he thinks we’re just scratching the surface of what portable stimulus can be. Closing out this week’s podcast episode, I take a closer look at choosing the right capacitor for your next SSD hold-up application.
